The Cocoon Thermal Mass Furnace uses long wave infrared heat to warm a thermal mass – think of it like a giant stone. This mass “holds” the heat in a more consistent fashion, and our blower distributes that heat throughout your home. The thermal mass’ ability to hold the heat increases efficiency by reducing the “on” and “off” cycles of the energy used to heat it. The blower gently pushes air across the heated mass until the thermostat reaches temperature. Then it stops blowing and heating the mass. But the mass stays warm due to its inherent nature. When the thermostat communicates a decrease in temperature, the blower resumes blowing across the mass –it may or may not need to be reheated, but it never requires a complete heat up like a traditional electric furnace heating element. This reduces the “on” and “off” cycles, reduces energy consumption, and creates a more constant, comfortable heat.
